HAWAII SOLDIER DIES IN KUWAIT; 3 OTHERS SERIOUSLY INJURED
HonoluluAdvertiser.com - A 19-year-old soldier from the Hawaii National Guard was killed in a noncombat-related vehicular accident in Kuwait, the Pentagon says. Three other Hawaii Army National Guard soldiers were seriously injured in the accident, which occurred Thursday, the state's Department of Defense said in a news release. Spec. Cwislyn K. Walter, of Honolulu, died Thursday in Kuwait City. She was assigned to the 29th Special Troops Battalion, 29th Infantry Brigade Combat Team of the Hawaii National Guard. She was a 2007 graduate of Farrington High School. The military says the circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation.

RESERVIST MAY QUALIFY FOR EARLY RETIREMENT

ROBINS AIR FORCE BASE, Ga. (AFNS) -- Department of Defense officials here have issued
new guidelines for early receipt of retired pay for members of the Reserve components.
Instead of having to wait until age 60 to receive Reserve retired pay, eligible members may receive retired pay prior to age 60 but not before age 50.
Under interim changes to Department of Defense Instruction 1215.07, Service Credit for Reserve Retirement, issued under a law passed by Congress effective Jan. 28, 2008, Reserve component members are able to reduce the age at which they are eligible to receive retirement pay by three months for each cumulative period of 90 days served on active duty in any fiscal year.
